地震の死者数70人超 インド、救援活動難航

 インド北東部で18日起きた地震によるインド、ネパール、中国の3カ国での死者は20日未明までに、計70人を超えた。PTI通信が伝えた。被害が甚大なインドのシッキム州などでは道路が土砂で寸断されているため被災状況の全容把握が困難になっており、死者数はさらに増える可能性もある。悪天候で救援活動も難航している。

 報道を総合すると、これまでに確認された死者はインドで58人、ネパールで9人、中国で7人。インド国防省によると、シッキム州の州都ガントクから同州北部への道路が数カ所で寸断されている。同州の内務省当局者は19日、救援部隊が到達していない山間部などで、倒壊した家屋などの下敷きとなり、生き埋めになっている人々がいる可能性を指摘した。インド軍は兵士約5500人を動員。ヘリや輸送機で被災地へ食料を投下したほか、医師団を派遣。シッキム州内に2000人を収容できる避難所を設置した。(共

インド地震チベットでも被害

インドで18日に発生したマグニチュード(M)6.8の地震は、中国西蔵チベット自治区日喀則(シガツェ)地区の亜東(ドモ)県や 崗巴(ガムパ)県など16県にも被害をもたらした。19日午前9時の時点で、ドモ県では7人が死亡、23人が負傷(うち2人は重傷)した。また、同県の多くの村落では、民家が倒壊の危険に見舞われ、ある村落の家屋は全て倒壊、通信光ケーブルも遮断された。県政府所在地では停電が続いた。

 シガツェ地区公安消防部門は地震発生後、消防隊員50人をドモ県に派遣、救援活動に着手した。自治区政府はテント1100張と綿入り上着・掛け布団4500枚を緊急手配し、被災地に届けた。

6.8-magnitude earthquake kills 7 and injures 22 in Tibet

DHARAMSHALA, September 19: An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richterscale struck the Indian border state of Sikkim Sunday evening, sending tremorsthroughout the region.

6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Himalayan region

According to incoming reports, the earthquake has killed over 50 peopleand injured several others in India, Nepal and Tibet.

The Chinese official News agency, Xinhua, in a report said that theearthquake killed seven people and injured 22 in Tibet while triggeringlandslides and disrupting electricity and telecommunication services in theregion.

The Tibet regional seismological bureau said that the quake had itsepicenter 40 km from the Indo-Tibet border and its jolts were felt in mostparts of Shigatse, the historic home of the Panchen Lamas.

The Indian government has dispatched relief workers and aid to theaffected areas in Sikkim and West Bengal.

Speaking to Phayul, Dhondup Dorje, additional secretary of theDepartment of Home of Central Tibetan Administration confirmed that there havebeen no Tibetan casualties in the affected areas in India.

"Lines are down, but according to initial reports we can say thatthere are no Tibetan casualties in the quake hit region except for someinjuries and minor damages to houses in Gangtok," said Dhondup.

“We are waiting for a detailed report,” Dhondup added.

The Tibetan Parliament-in-exile in its morning session offeredcondolences to the families of the quake victims and observed a minute’ssilence to mourn the loss of lives.

Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay, while speaking to reporters inDharamshala, expressed his sadness over the destruction caused by the quake andoffered his prayers and condolences to the victims and survivors of the quake.

Dalai Lama expresses concern over Sikkim quake

DHARAMSHALA, September 20 - The Tibetan leader His Holiness the DalaiLama has expressed concern over the devastation caused by the recent earthquakein north eastern Indian state of Sikkim.

In a letter offering his condolences to the Chief Minister of Sikkim,His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote, “I was saddened to learn about the loss oflife and damage to property that the recent earthquake has caused acrossisolated Himalayan regions, particularly in Sikkim. I offer my sympathy andcondolences to all those families, who have been directly affected by what Iunderstand is one of the worst earthquakes in recent memory.”

The Tibetan leader offered his prayers for those affected by thistragic natural calamity and also donated Rs. 500,000 from the Dalai Lama Trusttowards relief work in the affected areas of the state.

The Dalai Lama last visited the state in December 2010.
