Since March this year, 11 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in Tibet to protest Chinese rule. Most of these self-immolations have been carried out by monks from Kirti Monastery, one of the great centers of learning in Tibet. Why are the Tibetans choosing this method of protest? What are they trying to tell the world? What are the implications on China and the world's leading nations? Join His Eminence Kirti Rinpoche and the Buddhist scholar Robert Thurman for an intimate conversation on a trend that has shocked the world.

In the last eight months, eleven Tibetans have set themselves on fire in protest of Chinese rule in occupied Tibet. Seven of these self-immolations have been carried out by monks of Kirti Monastery. The head lama of the monastery, Kirti Rinpoche, testified before the United States Congress last week in an effort to garner greater international pressure on China to stop the military crackdown in eastern Tibet.
