“Visas for Life” 6,000 Jews saved by a Japanese Diplomat

I would like to share a heartbreaking true story of a Japanese diplomat named Chiune Sugihara Who issued later called “Visas for Life” to save thousands of Jews from Nazi during the WW2. A friend of mine recently came to know her friend’s grandparents were saved by Visas for life. It was the City of Burnaby where her grandparents first arrived and settled.

By some estimates, more than 40,000 people alive today have him to thank for their very existence.

本日は感動のトゥルーストーリーを皆様と分かちたい思います。日本人外交官、杉原千畝は大二次世界大戦中に何千ものユダヤ人をナチスの手から救いました。後に「命のビザ」と呼ばれます。私の友人の友人の祖父祖母はこの命のビザにより命を救われた事を最近知る機会を得ました。

その友人の祖父母が「命のビザ」のお陰でカナダにたどり着き、最初に居を得たのが、バーナビー市であったのです。

現在わたって計算するとおよそ40,000もの人々は杉原千畝の「命のビザ」により助けられた事になります。
