The statement;
December 10th is the Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of
the International Declaration of Human Rights at the Third Session of the
United Nations General Assembly on December 10th, 1948. However, human
rights, freedom, and democracy are being threatened by dictatorships in the
world today.
In February 2022, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin unilaterally
invaded neighboring Ukraine. This is a clear violation of international
law. This Russia is militarily supported by dictatorships such as Belarus,
Iran, and North Korea. And another dictatorship, China, continues to
strongly insist on annexing Taiwan.
In Myanmar, the national military took over the government in a coup
in February 2021 and detained Aung San Suu Kyi. Hun Sen in Cambodia and
Lukashenko in Belarus have been dictatorships for nearly 30 years. Both
dictatorships deny democracy and harshly repress protesters, including
outlawing democratic opposition parties.
In Iran, a woman in her twenties, Mahsa Amini, was detained and
killed for not wearing a scarf. Many protesters have also been killed by
the Iranian government.
In China, human rights abuses are taking place on a scale
unprecedented in human history. In Tibet, East Turkistan (Uyghur), and
Southern Mongolia, which China has unjustly occupied, ethnic cleansing is
taking place, depriving people of their language, religion, culture, and
history. In Hong Kong, the "one country, two systems" has been denied and
swallowed up by China, and democracy is being crushed.
Under threat from dictatorships, we raise our voices to demand the
human rights of people in each nation and the democratization be achieved
to guarantee human rights. We will hold a solidarity meeting and peace
march to protest against dictatorships in China, Russia, Myanmar, Cambodia,
Belarus, and Iran, and to seek support from the international community. We
hope you will join us and support us in Japan.
