Dharamsala, September 23 - Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters Wednesday stood outside New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel where Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao, and other world leaders are staying during their visit to New York for the UN General Assembly.

“Wen Jiabao―Free Tibet, Wen jiabao stop killing innocent Tibetans,” the protesters shouted. The protest was led by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey in conjunction with the Students for a Free Tibet and US Tibet Committee.

The protests lasted for over 9 hours during which the the protesters also sang the Tibetan National Anthem, Long Sho (Rise Up) and said the Prayers of Truth (Dentsik Monlam).

Ngawang Tashi, the president of the RTYC, NY and NJ, said, “China has violated the human rights of Tibetans inside Tibet. Not just Tibet, they have not even spared Chinese people. We want to tell the leaders of the world to open up their eyes, and ask China to stop inflicting more sufferings on the Tibetan people who are living a hell-like life."

Chinese democracy activists were also present outside the hotel protesting against Wen Jiabao. Chinese activists from the Democratic Party of China called Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to put into practice his recent words that “Justice is more than sunshine in China." Wang Juntao, co-chairman of the National committee of the Democratic Party of China told Epoch Times, "We cannot take his words seriously. If you check the communist party, they always say very good words, but their actions are very cruel.”

DIRECT LINE TO WEN JIABAO
On September 8, the People's Daily, aChinese state-run news outlet, launched an online message board called “DirectLine to Zhongnanhai” (直通中南海) inviting people to submit comments to the Chinese government. The forum claims be an open communication platform to sendconcerns directly to the Chinese Communist Party's top leadership, but not without some heavy restrictions of course. Not surprisingly, political content is prohibited: read the full list of restrictions.

Given that China's leaders aren’t open to hearing what Tibetans, Uyghurs,Chinese democracy advocates, and human rights activists have to say, SFT haslaunched our own DIRECT LINE TO WEN JIABAO during his visit to New York.

Send an uncensored message to Premier Wen and we’ll “post” your message in locations he’s expected to visit during his stay in New York.
