In a briefing session with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, SFT's Tendolkar and Kate directly questioned her on Tibet and held an impromptu meeting where Tendolkar presented Ms. Pillay with a khata (Tibetan white scarf) and appealed for her support on behalf of Tibetans everywhere. A week later, Ms Pillay issued a landmark statement highlighting Tibetan self-immolations and condemning China's repression; it was the strongest stand taken by UN on Tibet to date.

Launched "Reclaiming History" campaign
On May 23rd, SFT launched the "Reclaiming History" campaign with a countdown to the centenary of the 1913 Tibetan Proclamation of Independence. We recreated a 12-foot-long version of the scroll and held Proclamation ceremonies in Dharamsala, Delhi, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Madison, San Francisco, Charlottesville, Toronto, Amherst, Burlington, Salt Lake City, Santa Fe and Portland. We've distributed hundreds of copies of the Proclamation, urging people to celebrate Feb 13, 2013 as Tibetan Independence Day.

Supporting Nonviolent Resistance in Tibet
SFT has led the effort to promote Lhakar, the homegrown Tibetan noncooperation and self-reliance movement, by encouraging communities to organize weekly actions. Since January, SFT members and friends in Dharamsala, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Paris, Salt Lake City, Santa Fe, Madison and Minnesota have started Lhakar vigils. We provided analyses and commentaries on Lhakar through writing as well as on air through Radio Free Asia, Voice of America and Voice of Tibet.
