Chineseauthorities have escalated their violent attacks in Ngaba County in easternTibet. Armed Forces are patrolling villages and towns, arbitrarily detainingTibetans (including a 16-year old boy), and forcibly stopping monks fromentering or leaving Kirti Monastery. Dozens of Tibetans have been detainedsince a 20-year old monk, Phuntsok Jarutsang (pictured right), lit himself onfire in an act of protest in Ngaba town on March 16, 2011, prompting monks andlay people to protest China's oppressive policies in Tibet.
